Marc Chagall was a Russian painter that used love as his
main inspiration for his paintings. Chagall was part of the Cubism and
Expressionism art movement of the time. He painted the birthday a few weeks
before his weeding to his wife Bella, which then became the center of his
inspiration for painting about love. The Birthday expresses their passionate
love for each other and how happy they were together. Both character are
floating in the air as if carried by the wind of love. The colors are toned
down so that the true focus remains on the two lovers engaged in a sincere
kiss. I chose this piece because of the sentiment that it displays and its
honest dedication to the emotion of blissful love.
